I'm pretty sure the firefox devs do want tab saving and just fucked up this update.

However, if you don't do updates, you probably have some dangerous security flaws, and may be contributing to spam and fraud botnets. The vulnerabilities usually become public at the same time the patches are released, and people start exploiting them not long after.
