Is this thing on?
Time to take another stab at seeing if some people will read and comment somewhere other than Facebook!
Almost a full year since the last time I posted here, but the harmfulness of Facebook's influence has been much more in the news in that year, and people are talking about it more, so maybe people are more ready to broaden their post&comment flavored social media now?

Farceborg has a much larger density of connected people, so I'd use it more, but they've redesigned everything sitewide to break my usage patterns, so they'll lose most of my interaction for the foreseeable.
I've never liked their editing of my "reading page" (newsfeed), and I've not fallen into following their suggestions, so their most poisonous aspects haven't touched me.
*shrugs*
There'll be another better thing someday.

ping!
I check the site every day or three, and post... well, due to the covid, I've been posting 2 or more times a month, on average, which is probably more than I've done in a while.
If there were more people posting interesting things here (hint, hint), I'd probably check my reading list more often. :-)
I'm not totally thrilled with the Dreamwidth interface, but it's not the javascript monstrosity that LJ turned into before forcing me to agree to a TOS in a language I don't speak. :-)

On the other hand, I've started to be lightly active on Twitter, instigated by the fact that it's basically the only way to keep up with public thinkers who no longer keep blogs.
I use Mastodon, and am looking into getting a Matrix server set up.
I do not miss Facebook, although I do feel a bit out of the loop sometimes, especially in the nagging worry (especially with the pandemic going on) that I might not have a way to know if people in my extended circles died.
