Kitchen hack for cleaning the microwave

Maybe most of you already know this, but I somehow never thought of it until a couple of days ago.

Wiping off the inside of the microwave is so much easier, quicker, and more effective, if I microwave a bowl of water for a few minutes first! Hot steam gets into all the crud on all the sides and top and bottom, and a single wet soapy shop towel can get it alloff in like a minute.

Another version of this hack is to microwave a sponge, which you can then use to do the wiping.

Unfortunately blogs and magazines that publish this hack often forget to mention that the sponge needs to be wet, which leads to a perennial recurrence of people setting their microwaves on fire.

For stubborn stuff, add a bit of vinegar to the water (but be careful of hot vinegar fumes!).
