Finland!

Time for my first posting that actually resembles a journal entry - don't expect many more of these :)

I am going to Finland, with Esther. We're visiting eirias. Leaving Boston on Friday evening, March 15th, and returning on March 29th. My accessline phone number should still work when I'm there, though at times it may just be voicemail.

*sigh* have fun. Finland is beautiful, and I'm jealous. (although questioning your sanity. I went there in March myself, and it is a wee bit nippy this time of year...)

Actually, this timing makes a lot of sense. eirias is in Helsinki on a fellowship, she started in September and is finishing this May, and she came back to the US for winter break. Esther has a two week spring break, the last two weeks of March. So, this is the only time when eirias is in Helsinki and Esther is free.

It is disturbingly warm here. Winter totally skipped Boston this year, so I was hoping to catch up with it here in Finland and scold it. When we got here yesterday afternoon, it was sunny, calm, and 7 degrees (low 40s). It was pleasant to walk outside with a long sleeve T and a jeans jacket. Where'd winter go?

I know, it fascinates me. Quenya grammar was based on Finnish.

I find it odd to hear Finnish spoken in such normal every tones and voices. Most of the Finnish I've heard before this has been music, particularly Värttinä, so I expect Finnish to only be spoken by women with clear well-trained voices :-)
