If your friend is local, they may know far more about Dublin than I do. But I honestly enjoyed the http://www.newdublintours.com when I was there the last time. Same with my partner, who went for the same tour on another say with another guide. Also, Chester Beatty Library is a hidden gem, perhaps even better than the book of Kells, without the endless waiting.
Depending on what you prefer and which exact route your takes, Bamberg (the whole inner city is Unesco world heritage) or Munich (the other side of Germany when compared to Berlin, just from the way the city *feels* - and Dachau is just around the corner; not something for a happy visit, but still very much worth the visit imho) may be interesting stops. Or take a day to go hiking in the Alps around Innsbruck.
