Even though neither of them is up for re-election this year, it can't hurt to remind them that torture is unpopular throughout the country, even in NC - which makes it a bit different from gay marriage. Bush is going to try to cast this bill as "letting us keep terrorists in prison" or something like that; Senators need to realize the public is seeing through the charade and then they might at least get a little nervous about it. Possibly nervous enough to allow one of the amendments to pass, by sitting out the vote?
