One was _nicolai_ so I put that down to mistaken time zone conversion, since he's in a far enough away timezone that it's an easy mistake to make. The other is roozle, who I guess just clicked the wrong button, or maybe her clock is off.

There's a certain level of such flukes I'd expect on any day. I have enough west coasters reading my LJ that it should be statistically okay :) If it were another day, it would've been someone else.

Arizona is in Mountain time, you just don't do daylight savings with the rest of the zone.

No. We're not. Every time our IT department had to reset my computer they had to set it to the option labled "AZ". Not mountain.

AND my airline tickets from last week said the timezone was Arizona Standard.

You still didn't address what to do if I'm moving between time zones, which I'm not anymore I've settled back in AZ.

That's probably your operating systems' way of denoting "mountain time but don't do daylight savings". Computer needs to know to stay on MST during the time of year that it would otherwise go to MDT. That's what "Arizona time" means: Mountain w/o Daylight. Arizona is still most definitely in the Mountain Time Zone, regardless of the names used to indicate that it stays on standard time in summer.

I'm not sure which I was in when I first saw it. I was in the car and don't know where the line is exactly.

Kentucky is partly in eastern and partly in central. There are several other states that do that, it's not that unusual.

Indiana is the only place, as far as I know, that merits a wikipedia page about its bizarre handling of time zones:
- Counties making separate choices about which time zone they want to be in
- Some counties doing daylight savings while others don't
- The whole system being changed every decade or two, so even when you learn it, you don't know it anymore
