I find that description kinda surreal. I was honestly bowled over by that debate when I first watched it, because of the way Connaughton seemed to parrot just a couple of talking points most of the time. Braude - who's pretty good and who I've seen moderate a bunch of Q&A appearances of this sort - let Bump talk because she was addressing his questions directly, something Connaughton hardly ever did. It convinced me that, regardless of positions, Connaughton wasn't just a "poor debater", she really didn't know anything about the job or the issues, and just came prepared with a small number of talking points.
