The surreal moment of the week was walking into a cafe/bookstore in Portland ME, trying to recover from having just seen "Monster" at the nearby theater, and hearing the Dresden Dolls playing on the bookstore's sound system. Missed Me is exactly one of the songs you do not want to hear when trying to get over "Monster", by the way.

(I sold three copies of the Dresden Dolls live album to the guy behind the counter and his friend :)

Heh. I can't remember if she told me that once or not. It's so hard to keep track of all the things she does! Living statues, street theater, performance house parties, modeling, a LARP-ish public haunted house for Halloween one year, a weird play combining the Legendary Pink Dots' music with the Holocaust and performed at the Middle East the next... BTW she's not just "the female singer", Dresden Dolls is mostly hers. She writes/arranges, sings, plays keyboard, and Brian plays drums. Although she was already playing with Brian by the time I met her, I have some recordings of her music from when she was at Wesleyan, and it sounds like the same music. Brian does add a lot, but it's Amanda's music.

You've made a total fan out of me, btw. Having seen them live I'm a total convert now, even though I've known about them for some time They used to come in to the Phoenix occasionally when I worked there, and I remember when Amanda was the seven-foot-bride in Harvard Square. I think wildelven had a bit of a crush on the bride.

Can't say I ever knew her when she was at LHS, though. I think she would have been a senior my first year. Anyway, they're completely awesome and they need to make another album.

(Now everyone will think I'm trying to rip off Amanda's look when I wear my stripey socks...)
