I hadn't planned on going to the winter Flea, and I still don't really plan to. One of the reasons is that I'm working for / volunteering for Claire Naughton's campaign for state rep, and her special election is February 7th - just about 10 days after the flea. So I feel like I should really be in the district that weekend, helping out.

However, as I discovered shortly before Arisia, this year's flea happens to also be in the district! (or, at least, a few blocks away from the middle of the district - it's oddly gerrymandered) That was quite a surprise. As far as I can remember, all the winter fleas so far have been either in Boston or up on the north shore.

Anyway, this means that even though I'll be busy during both days of the flea, I'd like to be there. As [livejournal.com profile] regyt put it for Arisia, I could "operate in parallel" to the Flea. If any of you are going and would like to have me stay at your hotel room, send me email! Also, I'm up for evening/night parties - campaign work will be mostly noon 'til mid-evening, I think. I do need to minimize spending, though.

[Edit: I have a place to stay, and will see some of you on Saturday night]

Re: Glad you're helping out Claire...

I was just about to reply to what I thought was a message from another Claire supporter (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ProgressiveDemocratsofCambridge/message/237) when I realized that was you in yet another forum.

The common denominator between me and you -- as you might have guessed at this point -- was...

you guessed it...

Claire Naughton

I only happened to find your blog because I was tired of finding so few postings that appeal to political junkies like myself through Google News, so in addition to topix.net (which is often quite a disappointment if I do say so myself), I type in my hot-topic-obsession-of-the-moment at technorati.com. Your LJ was amongst others found in the search engine results, and I made a point of replying to every semi-favorable to Claire posting at the results the day 'fore the election.

And even though Claire didn't get 50%, I daresay her amazing campaign was *not* a wasted effort. Thanks for all your hard work.

As far as knowing each other, I doubt it, although you might recognize me by another name, the one I use to post at Blue Mass - Marriage Equality Mass (http://www.bluemassgroup.com/userDiary.do?personId=179). I tend to restrict my postings to those topics that have to do with whatever will alter the balance of power for the-bigoted-amendment-of-the-day to the pro equality side (http://www.bluemassgroup.com/userDiary/comments.do?personId=179), however, so you won't exactly see my name pop up every day on that excellent blog. I've actually spoken to David on the phone after the special election Tim Schofield was running in, and was the one who spurred him to cover the election day intimidation by some doofus named "Bart McCauley", who as it turns out, was an operative working for the disgraced and defeated Glen Glennon, and not the ultimately victorious Mike Moran, who was my initial guess at the time. Like I said I only care that the winner votes the *right* (and by that, I don't mean political direction) way on the amendments. I want this struggle to be ended and residents of the Commonwealth to be over the issue of marriage equality so the stage can be set for my state to be the second to fight this battle, once our state supreme court hands down its long awaited ruling...
