I know it's not your likely route, but Highway 1 at Devil's Slide is closed until September, when last I heard a week or two ago. It really got hit this past rainy season.

Trying to zip down the coast in just one week, and to see people in Seattle, Portland, SF/Bay area, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and LA, means I'll probably stick to I-5 and bits of 101.

Just a minor note, 'cause I'm peevish like that (and if you use that phrasing in Chelan, they'll be peevish too): I know that in your land, the duality is Washington/Washington State, but on this coast, it's Washington/Washington, D.C. Obviously, the more important one to the area is the one that's unqualified.

I always just call DC "DC", not Washington, and that's pretty common practice all around the east coast, or at least the northeast. The major exception is the DC area itself, where people tend to say "Washington" to refer to the metro area, an "DC" or "the district" to refer to DC proper. But they're living nearby, so it's clear what they mean when they say "Washington".

Similarly, to avoid confusion, in most of the country people say "Washington State" when referring to the state - the main exception, as you point out, being the Pacific Northwest, where again, it's obvious by proximity which "Washington" people are referring to by default.

Since a majority of my LJ readers don't live in the Pacific Northwest, "Washington State" it is :)
(I don't actually have any readers in eastern Washington, but I may have readers who have friends there)

The west coast is a different issue altogether: Too many people to see, not enough time, and some I won't see if I don't stay with them, so I need to pick. However, unfortunate that you'll be out of town!
