I think I'm going to Louisville for New Years. And then, possibly, a short trip to Colorado with [livejournal.com profile] emilyrose Jan 1-5. Normally, Louisville to Colorado is a trip I'd do in one day, but since it's winter, I think it would be wise to split it in two in case we have to go a lot slower. So... who do I (we?) know in Missouri, not far from I-70, for possible crash space on the night of the 1st?

Splitting up the drive to Louisville might be good too. Any of you living somewhere about 3-6 hours from Boston in that general direction (NYC, Philly, Albany/Troy) want to have me over on, say, Friday night?

Coloradans: How bad (or okay) is it likely to be, getting to the front range from the east via I-70, early next week? Weather report for Limon, CO calls for snow on the weekend but clearing up Sunday and clear on Monday...

I don't live in CO anymore, sadly, but having lived in Arriba, Limon and such for a long while, I can tell you that you just need to have an alternate route in mind in case they get hit with another blizzard. That corridor is often hardest hit with snow/wind and subsequent closures.

Yes, actually - just last week and about 5 times in the past two years, it has been closed or seriously impacted from Colby, Kansas straight up into Denver. Wicked winds across the plains down there can impact visibility pretty badly. That said, it does look like the latest storm will clear out by Sunday evening. I probably hear about it more than most, having a grandmother in Limon ...

Close, but no cigar: My parents live in St.Louis, but I'm not going to be there, and I haven't kept in touch with anyone else in the area well enough to make any suggestions. It's a nice town, though.

We're getting hit with snow right now (right on schedule), but by New Years it should be clear (and I haven't heard of it forecast past the weekend).

70 east of Denver closes less often than to the west, but it will still happen (for some reason, Denver sometimes gets hit with more snow than where I am in C.Springs). If that's the case, you're welcome to take Hwy 24 at Limon to the Springs and crash at our place if the roads are bad.

I can second a crash space in CoSprings (Manitou Springs, actually) if needed, no bed but a whole flat-type apartment upstairs.
