Daisy and I are going to spend a few days in New York, Friday - Tuesday.

Recommend interesting restaurants for us to try (and describe them)?

Know of any parties or events we may go to?

Suggest something to see or do?

Restaurant: Borgeois Pig (fondue! tapas! exciting cocktails! dessert fondue!) - also right around the corner from Silence! The Musical.

Yes. Yes I am. It's very silly and fun.

Um, Book of Mormon standing room/lottery tickets are worth a shot. Hugh Jackman's show is supposed to be great. Rock of Ages is trivial and fun. Other than that I say "go to TKTS. See what they have on sale. Pick something interesting"

What she said. And there's MOBar at the Mandarin Oriental for drinks, if you're further uptown.

A Casa Fox is a fun restaurant, if you like tapas.

Mehtaphor. Modern asian/indian fusion, run by the guy who was runner-up on The Next Iron Chef two years ago. Super small warm cozy place (like you'll share a table with other people small).

[livejournal.com profile] auros pointed out to me that I meant to say Graffiti. Both of those restaurants are by the same guy but the one I was describing is actually Grafitti. Mehtaphor is also good (same type of food in general) but is not the awesome cozy intimate place. It's more like a regular upscale restaurant.

Book of Mormon tickets are nigh-impossible to get on short notice, but go ahead and try! I heard Silence is hilarious. I'm not sure if you went to Sleep No More in Boston, but the NYC production is mind-blowing....it's in the old Twilo space. http://sleepnomorenyc.com/

You'd be silly to miss the Highline. http://www.thehighline.org/

Restaurantwise, here's an extremely brief rundown:
• Han Gawi = stunning vegan Korean. http://www.hangawirestaurant.com/
• Txikito = creative, delightful Basque cuisine - also we are friends with most of the staff. Super nice folks. DO NOT MISS the squid ribbons in pine nut puree. http://www.txikitonyc.com/
• En Japanese Brasserie = elegant izakaya. We did NYE here last year (may again this year) and it's really fun to pound the mochi! http://www.enjb.com/
• Sushi Azabu is regarded as one of the best omakase in town. It's like a gorgeous little speakeasy in the basement of a fusion Italian/Japanese place in Tribeca http://www.greenwichgrill.com/
• Mangiami is run by a friend of ours. Really cozy bar with authentic, simple Italian dishes...but go for drinks and great DJing, often by our friends. http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/mangiami/
• Esperanto is really lovely Brazilian/Latin food and superb caipirinhas. They used to have live music on Mondays? http://esperantony.com/
• PDT is one of the best bars in the world - and fun too! http://pdtnyc.com/

....should I keep going? :)

Aw, yay! I hope you had the squid ribbons. They had a mushroom carpaccio special last week that was so ridiculous, I've been dreaming of it since.

Sorry, this week has been a little hectic - a houseful of guests just left and K leaves for a whirlwind business trip early next week. You'll just have to come back and visit again - maybe in the spring? :)

Those squid ribbons have the texture and flavor of the softest, pillowiest gnocchi or pierogie you've ever eaten. If someone didn't tell you it was made of squid you would swear it was a potato or rice based pasta. Do try it if you go back. It's heavenly and not at all what you are thinking.

That mushroom carpaccio, ahhhh! I could have made a meal out of several plates of just that. The little green peppers are a classic for me too! Yummmm.

K leaves at the crack of dawn on Tuesday for a 3 city, 3 day tour....so I will be helping her pack and going to bed way too early. But next time, ah yes! Next time for sure.

Dirt Candy is fabulous but hard to get reservations for.

Let me know if you have time while you're in town.

"Flight 151" is one bar/restaurant that is promoting the fact that they won't be having a cover charge on NYE.
